FAQ
How long does it take to get my stuff?
We hand-make every piece we offer here in our shoppe. If we have it in stock, we’ll ship it out in 2 or 3 days max. If we don’t have it ready to go, it’ll take a week to 10 days. If that’s the case, we will contact you to let you know. You can always message us before you order to see how long it will be.
Why are some of your shipping prices so high?
We really do strive to only pass along the best shipping prices we can find to you, and never mark up or make a profit on shipping. With that said, if you see a high shipping price, it’s usually due to the weight but more likely the volume. In particular maps and signposts or large boxes are expensive to ship. If it just weighs a lot and is not huge, we usually attempt to use a flat rate shipping box.
Do you offer local delivery?
Local delivery is a possibility if you’re not too far away from Summerfield, Florida. We can also meet up for delivery at one of our events. Please contact us to coordinate.
Why doesn’t the item I purchased look exactly as it does in the picture?
Ok, we hate to use this on you, but there are a wide variety of factors that may cause the image on your screen to appear differently than it looks in person. Most of these are technical but some of them are based on your concepts of color, or lighting, etc.
The absolute biggest reason is this: The Venerable Viking is a small business. We don’t have a factory or assembly line. Our products are each made individually and much of the work is done by our own hands with tools and equipment located in our shop. Some materials are purchased closer to the finished product than others—it’s not realistic for us to grow, harvest, and cut our own trees. 😬
Do you make custom orders?
Absolutely we do. We have a foolproof method that makes sure when you get your custom item, you’re not surprised about how it looks. We use a mandatory level of communication to gather all the info we need to make sure we understand your needs 100% before any materials are cut. This saves us money and in turn helps us keep our costs down. It is always our goal to charge the same as one of our products that is about the same size. AKA, we don’t do a markup for custom work unless we have to put extra time into it.
What do I need to know about cutting boards and charcuterie boards?
Our bamboo, acacia and other hardwood charcuterie boards are absolutely food safe. As a matter of fact, one customer reported that they regularly use theirs as a plate to eat steak off of almost every night (which will eventually mess up the design so we don’t recommend using the design side). Along with all of our stuff, you need to use basic common sense (or Google if you feel you may have a deficit in that area).
If you get leftover food crud stuck in the design it will be like any dish that is not cleaned all the way. If you eat off dirty dishes, the charcuterie board will not fix this issue. Also if food gets stuck in it and you have to scrub the hell out of it, you may lose some of that nice color where the design is.
Lastly, things like berries can stain the wood permanently. Berries and other natural flora is what they used to use long ago to dye cloth. The stain from such things stays in most natural materials like cotton and wood.
On the design side we recommend the use of Glad Press ‘n Seal or just plain Saran Wrap. If it does get icky, use warm soapy water and wash by hand, never in the dishwasher which will screw it up. If it looks dull or chalky after a long time using it, you can use something like vegetable oil or butcher block oil to season it. This will keep it looking nice.
